With hope and with caution, we are starting to see the light at the end of this atypical quarantine spring and from here can take a better look at what happened over the last few months.
For the vast majority of the population, there was one clear motto: stay at home. To make that possible, and make sure we all had what we needed to do so, another part of the population had to give it their all. The case we at OnTurtle have experienced the closest is of drivers.
On more than one occasion we have called you heroes because of your strong sense of sacrifice, courage, and responsibility. If this pandemic has taught us anything, it is that heroes do not wear a capes: they’re behind a steering wheel. Of a truck or an ambulance.
But when we applauded you as heroes, you responded that you were simply doing your job the best you could, making sure to social distance and wash your hands as much as possible. That’s why we wanted to pay tribute to you with the t-shirt “I’m not a hero, I’m a truck driver”, which ran out in record time at the La Jonquera service station.
Another lesson we’ve learned during this health crisis is the importance of teamwork. From the very first, we here at OnTurtle knew that we had to redouble our efforts to be on the side of the drivers, on your side. What better way to celebrate our 25th anniversary than by working side by side with all of you who have been on the road with us the whole time?
Our priority was to keep most of the services in the stations in our network up and running: from showers and car parks with video surveillance to customer service with limited hours and hot take away meals at our restaurants. In times as trying as these, we knew it was the little things, like having Wi-Fi available to contact loved ones when taking a rest, that were important.
Virus prevention and the protection of drivers has also been a very important matter for the OnTurtle team. We’re especially proud of the hydroalcoholic masks and gels distributed to drivers at the Mercabarna car parks, a nerve centre for food supply.
Your hard work to supply the population inspired us to stay thinking on our feet.
Now the journey continues. Before, during, and after coronavirus, we want to stand by our own. By you.
Thanks for still being on the road.
