“I’m very proud that 50% of the staff is female”
Interview with Marta Fábregas, Chief Commercial and Marketing Manager at OnTurtle
50% of the workforce being female isn’t the norm, but it’ll become more and more so. Marta Fábregas, our Chief Commercial and Marketing Manager, closes our cycle of #WomeninTransport interviews platforming women in the transport sector. Its origins in the 1990s offered a very different image in terms of parity, although everything points to the fact that we’re heading in the right direction. “It’s always been a male-dominated sector and still is, especially at the haulier level. But, little by little, women are also gaining ground,” she says.
- How and when did you start your adventure in the world of transport?
In 1995, when I joined RedTortuga to be able to work on commercial objectives and start internationalising the company.
- What was the transport world like then in terms of gender, and what’s it like now?
It’s always been a male-dominated sector and still is, especially at the haulier level. But, little by little, women are also gaining ground. Women are beginning to have a strong presence at the management level, and it’s becoming increasingly common to see them employed in the sector.
- Do you think that working with a 50% female workforce is the norm when it comes to transport?
No, this isn’t usually the case. Our company is 50% women, and I’m very proud of this figure. In fact, at OnTurtle, we try to put actions in place to promote gender equality. During International Women’s Month, for example, we support and try to enhance appreciation and visibility of the female presence in the world of transport.
- Transport is a constantly changing industry. Are we on the right track?
Yes, we’re moving in the right direction in terms of reaching equality between women and men. There are still things to do, this is a long-distance race, but we’ve really made a lot of progress and will continue to improve in the coming years.
