At OnTurtle, we reaffirm our commitment to secure parking through the ESPORG Truck Parking AWARD 2025. The competition has announced the winners of this latest edition: Recharge City in Denmark and mowiz TRUCK Porta de Barcelona in Spain. In addition, mowiz TRUCK Astigarraga has been recognized with the 2025 Eco-Friendly Truck Parking Management Award.
For the first time, OnTurtle has been part of the international jury of the ESPORG Truck Parking AWARD, composed of representatives and institutions from the road transport sector. These awards aim to promote excellence and help improve safety, security, and sustainability in road transport.
ESPORG Truck Parking Award, a recognition of safety
This is the third edition of the ESPORG Truck Parking AWARDs, driven by the European Secure Parking Organization, a European benchmark in promoting parking areas that meet the strictest safety standards. The initiative celebrates excellence and innovation in the sector, with the goal of transforming truck parkings into Smart Service Hubs, prioritizing cargo safety and driver well-being.
Our OnTurtle La Jonquera parking area was, in fact, named Best Truck Parking in Europe (under 50 spaces) for two consecutive years, in 2023 and 2024. This year, we have had the honor of participating in the jury’s decision-making for the 2025 edition. An invitation that supports our strong commitment to safety and quality in service areas for transport professionals.
OnTurtle-La Jonquera: a benchmark in transport security
The recognition of our La Jonquera parking is no coincidence. Since its founding in 1995, our flagship service area has been designed and developed to provide high-quality service to professional transport across Europe.
Strategically located at the border between Spain and France, it offers 25,000 m² with a service station, restrooms, showers, laundry, hotel, supermarket, shop, and restaurant. It’s also a pioneer in innovation, earning prestigious quality seals such as the SGS Seal of Quality.
Our truck parking in La Jonquera is fenced, monitored 24/7, and has restricted access through a PIN code. It is dually certified by ESPORG and the Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA), validating that it meets the highest safety standards. Drivers can also reserve their space in advance through platforms like SNAP, Travis, and Otra Solutions.
For all these reasons, our parking is today a European benchmark and a preferred choice for transport professionals seeking to protect their vehicles and goods while on the road.
Shortage of secure truck parking areas in Europe
ESPORG, in collaboration with Panteia and TIS, has published a study on the availability and future development of safe and suitable parking areas for professional drivers in the EU. The document aims to inform the European Commission on the current availability of Safe and Secure Truck Parking Areas (SSTPAs) and to identify strategies to improve both the quantity and quality of existing facilities. Among its findings, the study highlights a significant need for secure parking in countries like Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, and Spain.
Since 2024, an EU Regulation requires member states to promote secure and protected parking areas for trucks every 150 kilometers along their core road network, with the goal of achieving this by 2040. According to the study, the current supply will not fully meet the expected demand by that date. It also emphasizes the need for more inclusive parking areas, with safety measures for female drivers, such as reserved areas and increased on-site security personnel.
As a solution, the report recommends increased public funding to quickly implement affordable improvements to existing facilities. This includes upgrading smaller rest areas to higher safety and comfort standards (e.g., from bronze to silver). ESPORG also suggests that certifying currently uncertified parking areas by enhancing security measures could help bridge the gap and improve the well-being of professional drivers.
